O<\/span> The Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Business Development, Dr. Olavo Correia, was present at the launch of the public consultation for the sub-concession of Cape Verde's port services, on 11 March, considered a significant step towards improving the operational efficiency and global competitiveness of ports in the country.\nOn that occasion he said that \"the Government hopes to find a 'reference partner' to sub-concession port services in Cabo Verde, currently under the management of the National Ports Company (ENAPOR).<\/span><\/p>\n

On that occasion he said that \"the Government hopes to find a 'reference partner' to sub-concession port services in Cabo Verde, currently under the management of the National Ports Company (ENAPOR).<\/span>

On this occasion, the Minister of Finance had the opportunity to point out to the national and international media that this whole process of privatizations, concessions and sub-concessions of services that the Government is carrying out aims to open the country to the outside, to bring new markets and create value: \"If we are to open up to the foreign market, it is for the new market to create value above what ENAPOR does today, Otherwise, we'll keep the status quo as it is.<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, we need to look for a partner who wants to invest to bring what we don't have in Cape Verde, a strong international partner of reference, one of the best in the world, because we are talking about an area that is crucial for the future of Cape Verde, crucial for the future of youth,\" he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The government stressed that the ultimate goal of all this policy is to create qualified and well-paid jobs so that Cape Verdean women and young people can have a dignified life, living off the sweat of their effort.<\/span><\/p>\n

ENAPOR was presented as a solid and robust company that every year presents dividends to the State and is considered a strong arm of the State in the implementation of policies for the blue economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2023, according to data presented today, the company had a turnover close to 2.8 million escudos and a positive result of around 150 million escudos.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Government's proposal is to sub-concession part of the activities currently carried out by ENAPOR, namely everything that has to do with containers and general cargo, leaving under the company's responsibility some services such as the unloading of liquid bulk, part of solid bulk, roll on roll off service and cruises.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Government's proposal is to cover all nine existing ports on the nine inhabited islands, for a period of 15 years, in the Landlord model, that is, in which the State retains ownership of the infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n

The public consultation was opened on March 11 and lasts for one month so that international partners, national and international private parties with an interest in this process, but also all Cape Verdeans residing and in the diaspora can, through an online page, access all the information and analyze point by point what are the strategic lines for the sub-concession of port services in Cape Verde.<\/span><\/p>\n
